Major Learning Outcome 6: Research And Technology:
This Major Learning Outcome is not directly connected to any single course, but rather it is something that is seen, even if briefly, through all the courses taken. Given this day and age, technology is basically an unavoidable element in education. Yet, these courses make it a point to undertake the challenges of technology as a tool for preparation for future use.
Some of the courses that are always more directly connected to this MLO are WLC300 and WLC400. While taking these courses, major emphasis was given to the creation of a compilation of the courses we had taken as a part of the Spanish Language and Hispanic Major and the World Language and Cultures department at CSUMB. This compilation would not only consist of lists of the courses taken, it would include reflections made on each course, on the major objectives given by the department, and also (and crucially) evidence of the work we created in the courses to serve as a demonstration of our work ethic and skill. That project is this website. Working on this website began from the earliest days of being in this university and spans to two years later, near my graduation. This work spans so long a time since it was meant to be a demonstration of our growth as students and showcase the sheer amount of effort and hardworking that was placed into not only the website but to reaching the point of completion in this major.
Other aspects of research and technology can be viewed in most of the courses taken (and the linked evidence), through the presentations that were created during the courses. A major aspect of these courses, I noticed, was the effort to require at the minimum one presentation before the class on a course related topic. I believe this was done to encourage students to be comfortable presenting their works to an audience. This proved to be. very helpful since the objective of our graduation project/ requirement (Capstone) culminates with a presentation of a semester long project to our professors and peers where we can demonstrate our abilities with research and technology.
